APT RepositoryI maintain an APT repository for the most recent Ubuntu standard and LTS releases. Sources are provided for packages I have backported or modified myself, but not for binary packages I have imported. To use this repository, either edit /etc/apt/sources.list or create the new file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/tolaris.list, and add to it the appropriate lines for your distribution. AboutI am Tyler J. Wagner, and I’m a sysadmin and network/satellite engineer. I live in London and frequently travel to Europe and the Middle East on business. I have lived in San Francisco, Amsterdam, Baghdad, and Arbil (Iraqi Kurdistan). I hold a B.S. Computer Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. I can be found on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I am the Chief Technical Officer of Talia Ltd, a satellite Internet services provider and Linux consulting and network engineering company. Talia operates its own teleport and maintains a VSAT network spanning 7 satellites and 1300 modems across the Middle East and Africa. Every day, we are responsible for keeping 140 mbit of traffic moving along 200 MHz of committed satellite spectrum. I manage a team of engineers responsible for that VSAT network and the rest of our company infrastructure, which includes 50 Linux servers and 25 Linux workstations. Our servers run a mix of Ubuntu, CentOS and RHEL, and our workstations run Ubuntu and Linux Mint. I have managed some form of Unix since I was introduced to HP-UX 9 in 1996, and have run Linux on the desktop full time since 2005. My wife and I…
- ContactIf you would like to contact me privately, please encrypt it with GPG/PGP. My 2048-bit public key is available here. Once you import my key, you’ll have my email address. Or you can send me a totally low-tech, insecure email via the contact form below.
- Bit BucketMy web root has collected all manner of stuff over the years. Perhaps it interests you? I once wrote a nifty plugin for Firefox 1.5, for the few of you that run a local Apache server and want to search your man pages in Firefox. It probably doesn’t work in Firefox 2, and definitely doesn’t work in Firefox 3. There are better ways to do it. I made a SNES-to-Parallel Adaptor to play emulated games with real controls on my PC. I haven’t had a PC with a parallel port in several years now, but I still have the adaptor. I recommend RetroUSB now. Travelling to Dubai, I frequently run afoul of the morality proxy. You can even view the old website, if you wish.

Backing up your Android device with BackupPC

I acquired an Android-based tablet a few weeks back. After the inevitable period of “new toy!” passed, I started looking into ways to safely archive my data. I already use BackupPC to backup to my PCs, so why not an Android tablet?
